What is a doula?

Doulas are a not a health professionals, we do not offer medical advice or catch babies. We offer physical, mental and emotional support during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. We offer education, information and help advocate for what you’re wanting.

Why hire a doula?

I hear this all the time! “I’ll have xyz in the room isn’t that enough?'“

Well only you can answer that. There are numerous advantages to hiring a doula. Such as:

• Continuity of care which is having the same person all throughout your pregnancy for reassurance and support. Quite often hospital visit you’ll see a new midwife and you won’t know who will be there when you’re in labour, having a doula means you’ve handpicked your birth support.

• You build a beautiful relationship with your doula during pregnancy so you feel comfortable to take them into the birth room with you.

• Doulas are associated with better outcomes for both mum and baby.

• We know a trick of two about positioning, acupressure, pain relief and more.

• We want to support the birth that you desire.
  

I want your support but I don’t want you in the room?

I’m here to support exactly what it is you desire. I can offer virtual support, this means you would still have access to birth education/prenatal visits, my resources and i’d still be on call. I would just support you via facetime or phone call as needed by you. Of course I would also see you after you’ve met your baby.

My birth partner thinks you’ll replace him?

I completely understand this but we are two different support people and I could never replicate the love, time and relationship you have together. I am here to support your decisions, support you physically and also to support your birth partner. I teach your birth partner ways to best support you physically and emotionally as well.

Do I need to pay upfront?

Of course not! We’re all in this cost of living crisis together. I offer payment plans that space across your pregnancy up until 36 weeks.
